The afternoon of September 11, 2001 I felt something that I had never felt before. As I left work that afternoon, I looked toward the sky and for the first time in my life I couldn't help but feel vulnerable to the threat of attack. In the weeks and months following, I felt something altogether different. Listening to George W. Bush speak of the war on terrorism, and seeing the patriotism displayed by the entire country replaced my fear with hope and pride. I remember during the year following 9/11 that Knew we had the right man in the office at that time. And that made me feel safe. I do not agree with every Bush policy, however, I know that he rebuilt the dignity for the office that had been lost.
After watching the President tonight, I once again feel uneasy about our leadership. At times during the speech, I felt as if I was watching a Saturday Night Live skit. It may take a years or possibly longer to fully understand t what has happened tonight and in the first year of Obama's presidency. I certainly hope that the American people saw what I saw and that we are able to stand up and say this behavior is not OK. We deserve better than this from the most powerful man in the world.
